There were several places I wanted to check out in Waikiki. Thanks to a local friend (Mindy, who I sadly did not get to see) we scored babysitters for our second night in Waikiki. I really wanted to check out the Modern Honolulu hotel and the Royal Hawaiian.
We watched the sunset from the
Grove bar at the
Modern Honolulu. The hotel decor is beautiful, very minimal and chic. There were still a lot of people lounging by the pool at sunset...the furniture looked so comfortable and inviting. Cannot say that our six kids would have fit in very well! It was a fun scene and we enjoyed our Modern Mules and Deconstructed Mai Tais.
Next, we headed to the
Royal Hawaiian. It is an old beautiful pink hotel right on the beach. The lobby is gorgeous with a wall of glass looking out onto a beautiful green lawn followed by the sand and sea. I tried to capture this but unfortunately my limited camera skills failed me. The
Mai Tai bar and restaurant is adjacent to the lawn and just steps away from the sand. I ordered the Wrightfully Royal (Absolut mango, fresh squeezed lime, grapefruit juice, simple syrup, & li hing mango fruit) which was the 2014 winner of the Mai Tai Bar mixology contest. We listened to a local musician play his ukulele and sing while we enjoyed our drinks and appetizer.
Mindy told me that
Duke's is the place to be on Sunday and she was right. It was very crowded and the wait was long but we ended up at a table on the beach under the swaying palm trees. The temperature was perfect and the breeze was just right, almost like something out of a dream!

You look amazing for a Hawaiian vacation! I grew up in Hawaii and go back every year but now rarely go to Waikiki, I hear great things about the Modern and may need to check it out next time I am home.
