We are really lucky in our little town to have a professional ballet company, Ballet Pensacola. This past weekend, they presented their annual show of The Nutcracker, and for better or worse, my mom and I took my three kids to the Sunday matinee performance. Five minutes in I was already questioning my sanity as they played musical chairs trying to get a better view, but as the dancers took to the stage, they settled down. Even my seven-year-old son was entraced by the beautiful costumes and the gracefulness of the ballerinas. So despite my misgivings, I am glad that I took them. I don't know how many more years I will be able to make the boys go, but I try to remember that in a world that is dominated by over-priced plastic toys, over-worked parents and over-stimulated children, it is nice for us all to sit back and enjoy a Christmas tradition like the nutcracker!
PS -Please forgive the grainy iPhone pics. I opted not to try to sneak in my big camera!

Maybe he's dreaming of Sugar Plum Fairies and Nutcracker Princes (but probably he's probably dreaming of Star Wars Legos and football) |
