Weekend at Lake Burton

We are home safe and sound from our weekend at Lake Burton.  The days and nights were beautiful and provided a brief reprieve from the heat of the Gulf Coast.  The first morning, I went for a run under the canopy of the trees on Blalock Goldmine, my favorite way to start a day on the lake. We spent the afternoon tubing and relaxing on the boat.  We passed Alan Jackson several times on his wooden boat and ran into Steve Smith, retired NBA star, at Anchorage Boat Dock. We ventured up to La Prade's for snacks, refreshing drinks and a short break from the boat.

Saturday night, we drove into Clayton for dinner at Fortify.  Several new restaurants have popped up in the area.  It was a fun change to get dressed for dinner and leave the kids behind for the evening.  The chef at Fortify, Jamie Allred, has been selected for inclusion in Best Chefs America the past three years.  He works closely with local farmers to provide patrons with the freshest ingredients.

We started with the Gouda Fritters and these are a must. We were fighting over the last one! The cocktails were interesting and different which is always fun. All of our entrees were a hit from salmon and crab cakes to quail and filet mignon.  It was a fabulous evening with the best food, wine and company.

Another memorable weekend at Lake Burton is in the books!

This is normal, right?
