Fun Times at a Florida House Fundraiser

A couple of nights ago we attended a fundraiser for the Florida House, which is located in Washington, DC.  Florida is lucky enough to be the only state to have an embassy in our nation's capital.  It's a place for Floridans to gather when they are in DC.  It's a venue for our Congressmen and Senators to host events, and it's a stepping stone for Florida's young people who are students of political science.  This week Emily's mom was involved in putting on an event in Pensacola to raise money to support not only the general operation of Florida House (which is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization) but also a scholarship to fund internships at Florida House for youth from this area.

Rather than another boring cocktail party, we started with a book signing by best-selling author, Randy Wayne White, who created the character of Doc Ford.  We then boarded the Portofino 1 and headed to the Portofino Resort for dinner on the water.  We've been having some unusually cool weather for this time of year (and by cool I mean in the 70s), which made the evening cruise and dinner delightful.  We also drank Moscow Mules by the water with Emily's uncle Bart.  He's the one who introduced us to our favorite drink so it seemed fitting that we should have one together.

Full disclosure, my uncle Bart is the President of Florida House

People seem to like to photo bomb us lately!
