Beach Front Bonfire

We spent this weekend celebrating my brother-in-law's birthday by camping out on White Island!  Thanks to Buck, the set-up was incredible and complete with a full-scale kitchen, bathrooms (okay, they were really more like outhouses), and a projection screen so that we didn't miss a single football game (this is the South, after all)!  The kids had the time of their lives fishing, swimming, skim boarding, kayaking, paddle boarding, roasting hot dogs and marshmallows and sleeping in sandy, wet tents.  When you're little, it doesn't get any better than that!

White Island is a little barrier island in Pensacola Bay that holds a special spot in the heart of many a Bayshore kid.  We came over to the island by boat, but it is really close enough to paddle board or even to swim (in fact, I was counting on using my paddle board as an escape plan if roughing it got to be too much fun).  As much I have been talking about dreaming about cooler weather, it's times like these that make me grateful to live on the Gulf Coast.  We always say that we are lucky enough to live where others only get to vacation.

  2. It was! It also made it a little easier for my husband to forget about the Gator game! ;)

    1. It's so stormy here right now and the Gulf is so fierce that I'm missing those blue skies and warm water.
