WMTH Travels: Atlanta

Sport Max red coat in honor of the holidays
I snuck away this week with my mom and Marian for a couple of days of girly fun in Atlanta.  The energy in a big city during the holidays is contagious, and I love it!  Every place we went was decorated, and everyone was in festive mood.

My mom arrived with a list of things she wanted to accomplish (and I think my kids made out like bandits), so we hit up Lenox and Phipps for some Christmas shopping (I might have gotten myself a present or two, but don't tell).  Marian was indulged in every store we went into including getting a "makeover" of powder and lipstick at the Laura Mercier counter. She was glowing with happiness!

Because we were traveling with Marian, it limited where we could dine.  I have a list of new places (St. Cecilia) that I want to try, but on this trip we returned to an old favorite, Bistro Niko, because it is easy and always delicious.  I've always wanted to try their Beef Bourguignon, and it did not disappoint!  On Tuesday we lunched at another tried-and-true favorite, the Neiman Marcus Cafe.  I love their chicken salad sandwich, and it was as good as ever.  That evening we ventured out to a new-to-us spot, F & B Bistro.  The service at F & B was wonderful, but I was a little disappointed with the food.  I had their steak frittes with a salad, and although the salad was excellent, the steak and fries were not very exciting.  I have to admit that I was pretty tired, and I wasn't in the best mood, so maybe that clouded my judgement.

On the way out of town, we stopped by Star Provisions to grab lunch as well as some cheese and baked goods.  I decided to branch out and try the roast beef sandwich, and I was so happy I did.  It came on a toasted bun with lettuce, tomato, mayo and a special treat of crispy fried onions.  If you like a good roast beef sandwich, this one is hard to beat.  I can't seem to go to Star Provisions without leaving with an armful of cheeses.  This time I got some of my favorites such as Wabash Cannonball and Tallegio, and I decided to try a new one, Mont St Francis.  All delicious, and worth a try!
