WMTH Travels: South Florida

Coronation 2014

Festival season is kicking off here in Pensacola!  What does that mean, you ask.  Well, every June we celebrate our city's heritage with a celebration called the Fiesta of Five Flags.  There are scavenger hunts, parades, boat parades, knights, princesses, a queen and a "king" named after the Spanish explorer Don Tristan de Luna, who discovered our fair city in 1559.  Last year, one of our good friends, Collier Merrill, was De Luna LXV, and he gave Scott the honor of being his Aide de Camp.  Although the guys have most of the responsibility, Mrs. DeLuna, Cate Merrill, and I got to have all the fun with lots and lots of party and lots of new clothes!  Our year in the spotlight is coming to a close as the new court will begin their festivities in a couple of weeks, but before they take over, we had one last gig down in Bradenton, Florida, at the DeSoto Heritage Festival.

It was a whirlwind trip with a change in travel plans at the last minute, but I'm not complaining.  Seriously, who wouldn't rather fly private??  It all came together, and we made it to the ball on Friday night where we paid our respects to our gracious hosts.  Travel on the way home was not quite as glamorous, and we didn't get home until after midnight.  Nevertheless, we had a great weekend with great friends!
