Fall Cooking Class

Our cooking class got together on Sunday night for a delicious meal.  Our hostess usually pulls recipes from cookbooks, magazines or her own recipe box.  The menu was Shrimp and Grits from The Great Cook by James Briscione and a Cran-Apple Crisp with Caramel Sauce from Southern Lady Magazine.  We decide over dinner if a recipe is a repeat or not and both of these were unanimous repeats!

I did a poor job of documenting the wine but it was delicious too.  My favorite was a 2005 Kalleske Shiraz Grenache blend.  It aged well and was a big wine like most Australians but had more complexity because of its age.  There was some toastiness with the fruit which I really enjoyed.

Another successful cooking class in the books!  Be sure to check out The Great Cook by James Briscione.  Emily gave me a copy for my birthday.  It contains a lot of great technique advice and many fabulous recipes.

I could not resist snapping a pic of this haunted house that my friend made almost 30 years ago at Mary Ann Staples' art camp.
My cooking mentor. She has taught me so much not only about cooking but also about being organized in the kitchen before cooking and entertaining.  She's always willing to take my frantic calls from the grocery store or my kitchen.
