Happy In Highlands, North Carolina

Last week the whole family traveled to Highlands, North Carolina, to enjoy the cool weather, the fall leaves and just being in the mountains.  My kids had the entire week off from school for their fall break, and we were fortunate to be able to swap our beach house with some friends who have a mountain house.  Incidentally, I don't remember fall break existing when I was a kid, but I digress...

The trip end up being a little bit of a comedy of errors.  Hudson started running a fever on the drive up, and it continued for the next few days.  As soon as he was on the mend, Marian came down with a stomach bug.  One sleepless night and many loads of laundry later, she was up and running again.  Last but not least, Wilmer woke up with a crick in his neck.  When I say crick in his neck, I mean he kept his head turned to one side with his chin on his shoulder for a couple of days.  If he had not been in pain, he looked so ridiculous it would have been hilarious.  Despite the trials and tribulations, I actually had a really good time.  I spent the entire time with no makeup in exercise clothes and hiking boots, which was completely relaxing.  Plus, Highlands is always charming with it's shops and restaurants, and we really love exploring the mountain trails around town.

The most wonderful pumpkins.

Did I mention how much I love my pumpkins?

A family snapshot, squinty eyes and all.  Btw, that's as far as Wilmer could turn his head.

A moment in time.

They are soooo cooperative when I try to take a picture, but at least they love each other.

  1. Oh, I feel you on vacations that seem to be a comedy of errors. Glad you all were able to have fun and snap some pretty pictures while you explored!

    1. I really did have a good time. It wasn't until I started to think back about the series of events, that I realized all the obstacles. Oh well, that's life! Cheers, E
