Marathon Must Haves

In February of 2014, I ran my first half marathon (Gulf Coast Half Marathon) and marathon (the Mercedes Marathon in Birmingham).  I have enjoyed running since middle school but never more than five miles.  When my youngest was about 2 years old, I started running again.  It was something that served as an escape and had a tremendous impact on my sanity! It took a while to get all of my gear straight.  Nothing is more irritating than earbuds that fall out or shorts that ride up.
These items all worked well for me.  What are your workout/exercise must haves?
Locals, I found all of my must haves at my favorite running store, Running Wild.
They have it all, even training programs for everything from a 5K to a marathon!

1  Yurbuds  Music to keep you going is a must!
3  Gu Energy Gel to keep you going. My favorite flavors are chocolate outrage and peanut butter.
4  Trigger Point The Grid This or some sort of firm foam roller is imperative during training. It helps prevent injury and with overall soreness.
6  Compression Sleeves These help in so many different ways.  I did not have trouble with shin splints but my calves stayed sore during training.  The compression sleeves helped support and a bonus was that they provided warmth during the cold winter months.  Make sure you buy the correct size!
7  Sports Bra  I rotate between my Lululemon Free To Be and Moving Comfort sports bras.  Moving Comfort sports bras have an excellent reputation throughout the running community.
8  Shorts I rotate between my Lululemon and Moving Comfort shorts.  A wicking liner is a must.  The other thing I look for in shorts is a decent sized zipper pocket in the back to store Gu packets.
9  Visor I love running in visors because they are cooler than hats and they keep my sunglasses in place. Definitely look for one that is made from a cool max fabric.
10  Under Armour tank Under Armour crewnecks and tanks are my favorite.  I also love Nike tanks.
11  I found a wristband very useful for my face and mouth after drinking water.
12  Newton Running Shoes I LOVE this brand of shoes but they are not for everyone.  It is very important to go to your local running store and have an expert help you find the right shoe.
14  Nuun Tablets My favorite flavor is Lemon-Lime.  Put a tablet in your water bottle and let it dissolve.  Nuun tablets serve the same purpose as Gatorade without all the sugar!
